Yetholm History Society has published several books - Water Mills on the Bowmont (2002) and Bygone Yetholm (2006). Both of these books are out-of-print, but more information on these and other publications can be found via the appropriate drop-down tabs.
In October 2017 we published our third book - Yetholm Past and Present: A Walking Guide. The book was launched at the Border Shepherds' Show on Saturday 7th October. Book description (from the back cover): In the past, Town Yetholm was a self-sufficient community and Kirk Yetholm was famous as the home of Gypsy kings and queens. This booklet provides a guided tour and a map for each of the two villages. It gives brief histories of key buildings. In-depth sections describe Yetholm's history and traditions. A final section describes short walks to places of local historical interest. The book has many illustrations by local artist Janet Canning. At only £5 the book is a bargain! Copies can be bought at both the Village Shop and Valley Meats in Town Yetholm - or by writing to us directly via the Contacts page. Shown below is Janet's drawing of the sadly demolished Allan's Cottage, which once stood in front of the Mission Hall where YHS holds its meetings. We are grateful to Northumberland National Park and Kelso's Charity Begins at Home for grants towards publication. |
